Asteroids, one of the classics from the world of pixel games (Atari) that a game developer must try to implement. Obviously, I have attempted the same thing. Pong is another game that you might find in this category a bit later.

The original Asteroids game uses line art to create flying rocks and flying sauces.

Well this version is a slight twist and is probably a little easier to implement. Since the shooting function has been removed, the game became more about hand movements, mouse control reflexes and piloting skills!

This engine is used in another project of mine, "mostwanted.com.au". Go there and compete with thousands of other players.

Logics

  1. For every frame, pre calculating and storing rotation and thrust delta x and delta y values in an collection.
  2. Pre caching sprite rotation animations in an collectionof BitmapData objects.
  3. Shooting!

Part 1

We will play with all of these and get the player ship moving about the screen.
